Pope Francis wants peace, not just a truce in Ukraine

The Vatican is ready to do everything possible to mediate and end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. This was stated by Pope Francis in an interview with the Italian daily “Stampa”, reports “Reuters”.

Asked if he thought reconciliation between Moscow and Kyiv was possible, the pope urged everyone not to give up.

“But everyone must commit to demilitarizing hearts, starting with their own, then disarming, disarming violence. We must all be pacifists. We want peace, not just a truce that can only serve to rearm. Real peace that is the fruit of dialogue,” he insisted.

Last month, Francis for the first time directly asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the “spiral of violence and death” in Ukraine.

He mentions Ukraine in almost all of his public appearances, repeatedly warning that the crisis risks the use of nuclear weapons with uncontrollable global consequences.
